Although Felix Ramos started his musical career more than five decades ago, he still has fresh in his mind his unusual beginning into art. One afternoon an amateur musician visits his house. That person tried to sing and play the song Quiereme mucho (Love me a lot), by Gonzalo Roig, but in vain.
Although Felix Ramos started his musical career more than five decades ago, he still has fresh in his mind his unusual beginning into art. One afternoon an amateur musician visits his house. That person tried to sing and play the song Quiereme mucho (Love me a lot), by Gonzalo Roig, but in vain.
"My family didn't imagine my early love for singing", says the guitarist, who was recently awarded with the Prize of the City. "Later I ratify it, firstly at CMKG radio station, where I performed for the first time, then at Radio Circuito, in the so-called program El programa del niño prodigio (prodigy child's program), which continued with my corals incursions, when I was at junior high school."
Felix's encounter with
his guitar occurs at the time of the Cuban literacy campaign, in which he
participated. Although his father also used to play that instrument, Felix's technical
initiator was his cousin Luis Palacios.
Since then he devoted himself to music concerts, especially to the derivative one from romanticism. His repertoire counts on the most noted of this genre, but he also like the popular one.
I fondly remember all these years. It was an intense and heterogeneous work. Once we form a vocal quintet at the style of Los Zafiros (The Sapphires), with whom, incidentally, we share stage at the old theater Rivera. We performed at several places in the country. I don't forget my participation in the Group Marti, which woke up my love for history of our country and for the school band.
Felix studied economy in college. But his fate was sealed. One day he definitely opted for the art of the god Orpheus and began to work at the Provincial Music Center. His guitar concerts had an unusual success. He felt very happy after his evaluation, which he passed with outstanding results. The years and his experience granted him new garlands: Personality of culture in Las Tunas and Creation Award.

"I alternate my
artistic presentations with my duties as vice president of the Cuban
Association of Writers and Artists in the province. I also produce and write a
night program for Radio Victoria. I try to motivate the radio audience for this
kind of music. Of course, I always do it with the strings of my musical instrument.
We are a duo: guitar and man."

A pesar de haber transcurrido más de cinco décadas, Félix Ramos mantiene todavía fresco en su memoria aquella insólita iniciación suya en el arte. Resulta que una tarde llegó a su casa cierto visitante aficionado a la música. Intentaba cogerle el golpe vocal a Quiéreme mucho, de Gonzalo Roig, pero en vano.
Entonces, para asombro de los presentes, el niño de cuatro años comenzó a entonar por su cuenta la antológica pieza. Fue la arrancada de su carrera...
-Mi familia ni siquiera sospechaba de mi precoz afición por el canto –asegura este notable guitarrista tunero, recientemente laureado con el Premio de la Ciudad-. Tiempo después pude ratificarla, primero en la emisora CMKG, donde me presenté por primera vez, y luego en Radio Circuito, en un espacio de grata recordación llamado El programa del niño prodigio, que continuó con mis incursiones corales y en Pro Arte, cuando cursaba la secundaria básica.
El
encuentro de Félix con la guitarra ocurre en tiempos de la Campaña de Alfabetización, en la cual tomó parte. Aunque su
padre rasgaba de vez en vez el instrumento, él tiene como a su verdadero
iniciador técnico a su primo Luis Palacios.
Desde entonces se aficionó a la música de conciertos, especialmente a la derivada del romanticismo. En su repertorio constan algunas de las obras más señaladas de esta corriente, aunque también gusta de la línea popular.
-Recuerdo con mucho cariño todos aquellos años. Eran de un trabajo intenso y heterogéneo. Una vez formamos un quinteto vocal al estilo de Los Zafiros, con quienes, por cierto, compartimos escenario en el antiguo teatro Rivera. Nos presentamos en varios sitios del país. Tampoco se me olvida mi participación en el Grupo martiano -que tanto me inculcó el amor por nuestra historia patria y por sus protagonistas- y en la banda de la escuela.
Había estudiado Economía en la universidad. Pero su suerte estaba echada. Un día optó definitivamente por el arte del dios Orfeo: comenzó a trabajar en el Centro Provincial de la Música. Sus conciertos de guitarra se sucedieron con inusitado éxito. Félix vio de pronto incrementarse su currículo cuando se sometió a evaluación y aprobó con felicitaciones. El tiempo lo agasajó con otras guirnaldas: Personalidad de la cultura tunera y Premio a la Creación.

-Actualmente alterno mis presentaciones artísticas con mis deberes como vicepresidente de la UNEAC en la provincia. También produzco escribo, y conduzco un segmento nocturno en Radio Victoria. Se llama Pequeño concierto y en él intento aproximar a la radio-audiencia al disfrute de este tipo de música. Claro, siempre con las cuerdas de mi instrumento al alcance de la mano. Somos un binomio: hombre y guitarra.
