One of the things that make Las Tunas famous is the celebration of the Cucalambeana Folkloric Festival every year, in honor to Juan Cristobal Napoles Fajardo, El Cucalambe, the most famous bucolic poet of Cuba in the 19th century. Today I share the opening of this rural party.
Cucalambeana Folkloric Party Begins in Defense of Rural Art

Las Tunas- Some 150 artists performed in this city during the opening of the Cucalambeana Folkloric Party on Wednesday, as part of the tribute to the 182 birthday anniversary of the bucolic poet El Cucalambe and fifty years of the National Association Small Farmers.
The inaugural parade, tinged by the performance of the Provincial Band Concert, of the children's projects Hormigas Rojas and La Colmenita del Balcon, of the folkloric dance companies Cueyba, Onile and Perdance, among others, showed that this festivity has an entrenched and popular character.
The colorful entourage laid a wreath at the mural dedicated to Juan Cristobal Napoles Fajardo, El Cucalambe, located on the street names, and then went to the main park of the city, Vicente Garcia Park, where the forty-fourth edition of the cultural event was officially opened.
The seventeenth Ibero-American Symposium on Ten-line stanza and Improvised Verses was held at the Revolution Square Vicente Garcia in the morning.
The theoretical space, which has as main theme Iberia in the National Cultures of Latin America, opened with verses of the Cuban oral poets Emiliano Sardiñas and Argentine Emanuel Gabotto who eulogized by means of their improvised verses the cultural inheritance of Spain, Canary Islands and Portugal.
Five specialists from Casa Iberoamericana de la Decima chaired the panel, dedicated to local figures of rural music, who have enriched the culture of the territory in an anonymous way.
One of the most emotional moments was the screening of the documentary El amor a mi carreta (I Love My Wagon), by Juan Manuel Herrera, dedicated to Idelgrades Hernandez Avila, an oral poet better known as El sinsonte caimitero. Therefore, the audience defended and suggested to rescue the work of these artists, who are sometimes forgotten; however, due to their authenticity they are jewels of the national culture.
In the symposium there will be 14 researches, two panels and several conferences, as well as magazines, books and the multimedia El Cucalambe en la fiesta suprema (Cucalambe at the Supreme Folkloric Party), prize Cubadisco 2010.
Cucalambeana Folkloric Party will run until July 3 and will promote exhibitions, shows, traditional games, craft fairs, and literary gatherings in different areas of the city.

En defensa del arte más popular, inicia en Las Tunas Jornada Cucalambeana
Las Tunas- Alrededor de 150 artistas abrieron el miércoles la Jornada Cucalambeana en esta ciudad, que viste sus mejores galas para recibir la tradicional cita.
El desfile inaugural, matizado con la actuación de la Banda Provincial de Concierto, los proyectos infantiles Hormigas Rojas y La Colmenita del Balcón, las agrupaciones danzarias Cueybá, Onilé y Perdance, entre otras, demostró que esta celebración mantiene su carácter arraigado y popular.
La vistosa comitiva colocó una ofrenda floral en el mural dedicado a Juan Cristóbal Nápoles Fajardo, El Cucalambé, ubicado en la calle que lleva su nombre, para luego transitar hasta el céntrico Parque Vicente García González, donde quedó oficialmente inaugurada la cuadragésimo cuarta edición del evento.
En horas de la mañana tuvo lugar la primera sesión del decimoséptimo Coloquio Iberoamericano de la Décima y el Verso Improvisado, en la Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Vicente García González.
El espacio teórico, que tiene como principal temática Iberia en las culturas nacionales de Latinoamérica, abrió con los versos del repentista cubano Emiliano Sardiñas y el payador argentino Emanuel Gabotto:
Iberia y sus tradiciones, claro, está por llegar
Hacer arte popular y entrar a los corazones
Son las manifestaciones de cada país hermano
Payada y punto cubano son no más que una sonrisa
Porque nuestro arte precisa de Emanuel y de Emiliano
Cinco especialistas de la Casa Iberoamericana de la Décima presidieron el panel, dedicado a personalidades locales de la música campesina, quienes han enriquecido de forma anónima la cultura identitaria del territorio.
Entre los momentos más emotivos, sobresalió la exhibición del documental El amor a mi carreta, de Juan Manuel Herrera, dedicado a Idelgrades Hernández Ávila, un consagrado repentista más conocido como El sinsonte caimitero. Por ello, el auditorio se pronunció por defender y rescatar la labor de estos creadores, quienes en ocasiones son olvidados, sin embargo, por su autenticidad constituyen joyas de la cultura nacional.
El coloquio presentará en total 14 ponencias, dos paneles y varias conferencias, además de revistas, libros y la multimedia El Cucalambé en la fiesta suprema, premio Cubadisco 2010.
Hasta el 3 de julio, la Jornada Cucalambeana promoverá exposiciones, espectáculos, juegos tradicionales, ferias de artesanía, peñas y canturías en diversos espacios de la ciudad.
, rindiendo tributo al 182 aniversario de El Cucalambé y a los cincuenta años de creada la Asociación Nacional de Agricultores Pequeños.
